Ian Johnson

Ian co-founded HFM in 2002, where he is a Managing Director and Principal. HFM is the leading Australian special situations fund focused on turnaround and restructuring investment opportunities. Prior to this he was retained by Macquarie Bank to manage distressed investments. In 2007, Ian and his co-investment manager at HFM acquired the joint management interests of Macquarie and McGrath Nicol in HFM, which with its latest fund, has now raised A$140 million for investment in the special situations sector.

Experience

In addition to his private equity experience, Ian has over 20 years of investment banking experience in corporate, project and structured finance and has been involved in the workouts and restructuring of some of the major corporate work-outs in Australia.

Ian's focus is in the negotiating of distressed acquisitions, capital structuring, strategic direction for investees and value accretion. He currently serves on the boards of ForceCorp, a leading equipment hire company and All Trades Queensland, an apprentice hire and training company based in Brisbane.

Qualifications

Ian holds a Master of Management from Macquarie Graduate School of Management. He is the past Chairman and past president of the Turnaround Management Association, Australia.
